The times call for new coaching formats
Same same but different—since so much has changed over the past 10 years that I’ve spent in leadership roles at various companies, I’ve already developed a few new formats in my recent venture as a freelancer!
Number 1: The in-house coaching day: Time is extremely scarce in the daily lives of high-performing individuals. By this I mean experts, managers, those working in fields with labor shortages, people juggling multiple family responsibilities, and so on. While these individuals generally view coaching sessions as urgently necessary, outside of the workday they simply lack the capacity, energy, and motivation to devote additional time to them. Even the coaching blocks of 3 or 5 sessions offered in many places sometimes lead to a feeling of additional stress rather than being eagerly taken advantage of.
The new “in-house coaching day” format offers a powerful alternative: Instead of booking coaching sessions for individual employees, coaching days take place right on-site at the company. Those nominated by the company can sign up directly for a 1.5-hour session. The coaching sessions focus on the here and now—on a specific topic, a particular challenge, or an outlet for discussing and resolving certain pressures—and participants leave with a concrete solution, clarity regarding a decision, or a key insight gained from the session. A few weeks later, another session may take place if needed; alternatively, a coaching day may sometimes be offered once a quarter. As a coach—and thus as a neutral and professional sounding board—I’m available to assist with all kinds of issues.
